VIETNAM LAUNCHES MEDICAL TOURISM INITIATIVE TO ATTRACT INTERNATIONAL PATIENTS
The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation to develop sustainable and effective medical tourism for the period 2025–2030.
The agreement aims to maximize the potential, advantages, and resources of both the healthcare and tourism sectors, contributing to Vietnam’s socio-economic development in the new era.
A key priority is to build Vietnam’s brand as a trusted destination for high-quality medical and tourism services in the region and globally. This initiative seeks to attract both domestic and international travelers to combine tourism with medical treatment at licensed healthcare facilities across the country.
Under the cooperation framework, the two ministries will establish a system linking medical services with tourism and leisure offerings. This integrated model will highlight Vietnam’s medical strengths while expanding opportunities for health-focused travel experiences. The goal is to enhance the country’s capacity to deliver medical tourism services while promoting sustainable tourism development.
To achieve this, the ministries will jointly develop and propose policies that enable tourism enterprises to partner with hospitals and clinics offering quality medical services. At the same time, healthcare facilities will be supported in designing strategic packages tailored to tourists, while also strengthening workforce training and awareness of the intersection between healthcare and tourism.
The tourism sector will expand wellness and healthcare travel services by connecting with medical institutions, while the health sector will increase investment in high-quality medical services and partner with travel companies to attract more international patients to Vietnam.
Annual tourism promotion programs will also highlight Vietnam’s medical strengths, including traditional medicine, specialized treatment services, and high-quality healthcare. The health sector will coordinate with the tourism sector to showcase Vietnam’s medical heritage and tailored service packages in both domestic and international promotional campaigns.
With this strategic cooperation, Vietnam is taking a significant step toward positioning itself as a leading destination for medical tourism in Asia, blending healthcare excellence with unique cultural and leisure experiences.
