LEGO INAUGURATES $1.3 BILLION FACTORY IN VIETNAM

On April 9, 2025, The LEGO Group (Denmark), in collaboration with the People’s Committee of Binh Duong Province, officially inaugurated the LEGO Manufacturing Vietnam plant at the VSIP III Industrial Park. With a total investment of over USD 1.3 billion, this marks LEGO’s sixth factory worldwide and its second production facility in Asia.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh emphasized that LEGO’s decision to build a high-tech, environmentally friendly factory in Vietnam demonstrates the company’s strong confidence in the country’s investment environment and long-term commitment to sustainable development. He noted that the factory not only delivers economic value but also serves as a source of creativity for children, contributing to both education and environmental protection.

LEGO CEO Niels B. Christiansen described the factory’s inauguration as a strategic move to expand production capacity across the Asia-Pacific region, further underscoring LEGO’s dedication to long-term green and sustainable growth.

The facility covers 44 hectares and includes five main buildings with a total floor area of 150,000 square meters. These encompass office spaces, an energy center, injection molding and packaging areas, and an automated warehouse. Notably, this is LEGO’s first carbon-neutral factory worldwide, aiming to run entirely on renewable energy by 2026.

To date, 12,400 rooftop solar panels have been installed, generating a total capacity of approximately 7.34 MWp—enough to power around 1,270 households annually. The packaging process will also shift from plastic bags to paper-based alternatives and aim for zero landfill waste, in line with LEGO’s global sustainability goals.

The project is expected to create over 4,000 jobs in the long run, offering young workers opportunities to acquire modern skills and integrate into the global value chain.

In addition, LEGO is constructing a large-scale energy center next to the plant, which will feature battery energy storage systems and is scheduled to be operational by the end of 2025.

As part of its broader strategy to build a more flexible and efficient supply chain in Asia, LEGO also plans to open a new distribution center in Dong Nai Province by late 2025. The facility has already begun trial operations and completed its first shipments.
