BINH DUONG – A HUB FOR TRADE, SERVICES, AND URBAN INNOVATION
Transforming the Development Model (2021–2030)
According to the province’s master plan for 2021–2030, Binh Duong is undergoing a strategic transformation in its development model. The province is shifting its focus from purely industrial growth to fostering modern industries in tandem with high-quality trade and service sectors. Central to this transition is the mobilization of investment for transport infrastructure and the coordinated development of commerce, services, and urban areas.
A Destination for Global Connection and Growth
Binh Duong is rapidly establishing itself as a prime destination for international investors, professionals, and their families. The province is no longer defined solely by its industrial base—it is embracing a holistic development approach centered around improving quality of life.
Binh Duong New City exemplifies this shift. Designed as a hub for administration, commerce, culture, and entertainment, the city is emerging as a vibrant urban nucleus. Major investments in infrastructure are paving the way for Binh Duong to become a smart, livable city of the future.
Mr. Wyeren Yap, General Director of CapitaLand Development Vietnam’s Southern Region, has highlighted Binh Duong as one of Vietnam’s leading provinces in attracting foreign direct investment. Its favorable investment climate, along with the development of smart urban areas, has made it an attractive place to live for the international community.
The expansion of the trade and service sectors aims to strengthen global connectivity and deepen international partnerships. This effort supports a more balanced economic structure by narrowing the gap between industry and services. National and international events, along with infrastructure upgrades, are generating positive spillover effects across the province—benefiting both investors in new industries and the broader community.
Enhancing Livability for Residents
After nearly three decades of robust industrial growth and investment attraction, Binh Duong has consistently ranked among Vietnam’s top provinces for foreign investment. However, experts stress that future sustainability will require a stronger focus on urban development and service quality.
Dr. Mai Huu Tin, Chairman of the Binh Duong Business Federation, emphasized that with the presence of major domestic and international retailers—and with investments aligned to population growth—the province’s trade and service sectors are well-positioned for rapid expansion. The provincial plan to 2030, with a long-term vision to 2050, prioritizes integrated development across industrial parks, urban zones, education, healthcare, and commercial services.
“The better Binh Duong becomes at attracting and delivering high-quality services,” Dr. Tin explained, “the more it will attract people and experts to settle here. That, in turn, drives consumption and long-term urban growth. Every major city begins this way—by welcoming people, even at modest means, and giving them opportunities to rise.”
International Investment and Transit-Oriented Growth
Today, numerous investors are eager to partner with Binh Duong in shaping a modern, inclusive urban landscape. Korea’s Daewoo Group, for instance, is exploring opportunities in real estate, infrastructure, and transport development. Meanwhile, Tokyu Corporation is considering investment in a Light Rail Transit (LRT) project, complementing Metro Lines 1 and 2 and boosting regional connectivity.
Major infrastructure initiatives are redefining the urban image of Binh Duong. Among these, the A1 Roundabout Complex (WTC Gateway) in Binh Duong New City stands out. This 168,000-square-meter mixed-use development will feature a shopping center, exhibition halls, sports and cultural venues. Positioned as the province’s first transit-oriented development (TOD), WTC Gateway will integrate with a future central station linked to Ho Chi Minh City’s metro system, reinforcing cross-regional accessibility.
With a high urbanization rate, Binh Duong has more potential and opportunities to make a breakthrough in developing trade and services, in which Binh Duong New City is the core. Over the years, Binh Duong has recorded impressive figures in the development of cultural and entertainment infrastructure. A typical example is the WTC EXPO International Exhibition Center. This is a complex space with diverse functions, services, and full amenities, becoming an ideal destination for business, cultural, and community activities
These flagship international projects not only serve as urban landmarks—they also enhance Binh Duong’s global competitiveness and its reputation as a forward-looking destination for investment, innovation, and high quality of life.
