BECAMEX AND QUALCOMM ACCELERATE GREEN AND DIGITAL INVESTMENT TO CAPTURE THE NEXT WAVE OF SUSTAINABLE GROWTH

Becamex and Qualcomm are simultaneously accelerating their investments in green transition and digital transformation, viewing these as strategic foundations to strengthen competitiveness and seize sustainable development opportunities. Speaking at a dialogue session with leaders of central ministries and agencies during the 2025 Autumn Economic Forum, Mr. Nguyen The Duy – Vice Chairman of Becamex IDC – emphasized that new policy directions are opening significant opportunities for collaboration between domestic enterprises, foreign-invested firms, and the administration of the newly restructured Ho Chi Minh City.

Drawing from its implementation experience, Becamex has established five core task groups to accompany the city’s dual transition strategy. The company is first focusing on developing a next-generation industrial park model, anchored by a 220-hectare core area in Northwest Ho Chi Minh City. This zone is designed as an innovation hub supporting idea incubation, startup development, pilot manufacturing, and linkage with academic ecosystems such as Vietnam National University–HCMC and the Vietnamese–German University. In parallel, Becamex is building a network of specialized zones including a digital technology park, an ICT cluster, a science and technology precinct, and a science park, while also preparing to launch an additional 1,700 hectares of next-generation industrial parks serving both domestic and international markets.

The second task focuses on practical digital transformation for businesses. In partnership with VNPT, Becamex is developing integrated IoT solutions with clear implementation roadmaps and accessible costs for both new and existing enterprises. A notable example is the digital automation model implemented for Orion at VSIP, which has been successfully replicated at VSIP Bac Ninh. The third task involves close collaboration with the World Bank and IFC to develop an eco-industrial park model aligned with WBG Version 2.0, expected to obtain certification by 2026 and potentially become the first of its kind in the region. The company is also integrating renewable energy, green logistics, and emission-reduction technologies into industrial park infrastructure to meet the sustainability requirements of global supply chains. Finally, Becamex prioritizes high-quality human resources development through partnerships with institutions such as Vietnam National University–HCMC, NUS Singapore, AIT Singapore, and the Fraunhofer IFF (Germany), ensuring talent training, technology transfer, and applied research are directly connected to enterprise needs.

In the technology domain, Qualcomm emphasizes the central role of digital infrastructure, AI, and 5G in enabling the green transition. According to Mr. Thieu Phuong Nam – Country Manager of Qualcomm Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia – three elements are fundamental to accelerating digital transformation: robust digital infrastructure, particularly 5G; supportive policies that encourage businesses to adopt emerging technologies such as smart machines and drones; and incentive mechanisms that position green transition as a competitive advantage rather than merely a regulatory obligation. Qualcomm’s global sustainability program, led directly by the Group CEO, sets a target of achieving Net Zero by 2040. Several milestones have already been reached ahead of schedule, including its 30% reduction target for Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2025—achieved in 2023. As a major player in semiconductor manufacturing, an energy-intensive sector, Qualcomm also commits to reducing the energy consumption of each new chip generation by an average of 10%.

However, Mr. Nam noted that Vietnam still faces challenges in capital, policy frameworks, and human resources. While the country possesses a strong pool of technology professionals, the number of experts who can bridge both technology and sustainability remains limited, creating a bottleneck for large-scale green transition initiatives. The proactive efforts of both Becamex and Qualcomm demonstrate their pioneering roles in promoting green and digital transformation, positioning Vietnamese enterprises to break through and lead as the global economy moves decisively toward sustainability.
