HCMC ASSIGNS BECAMEX GROUP TO CONDUCT STUDIES FOR TWO MAJOR RAILWAY PROJECTS

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Portal, Chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc held a working session with Becamex Group to discuss plans for implementing several key railway and metro projects.

During the meeting, Becamex Group proposed two major railway projects: the Ho Chi Minh City – Can Tho Railway, stretching 174 km with an estimated VND 173.6 trillion in investment for phase one, designed for speeds of 200 km/h for passenger trains and 160 km/h for freight trains; and the Bau Bang – An Binh – Cai Mep Logistics Railway, 127 km in length with an investment of nearly VND 153 trillion, designed for 160 km/h passenger trains and 120 km/h freight trains.

These projects are expected to form a strategic green transport corridor for southern Vietnam, connecting the Mekong Delta, industrial zones in Binh Duong and Dong Nai, and the Cai Mep – Thi Vai deep-sea port complex. They will help ease road congestion, enhance logistics efficiency, and foster regional economic growth.

In addition, Becamex Group proposed the extension of Metro Line No.1 from Suoi Tien to Binh Duong New City, covering 29 km, for which a pre-feasibility study has already been completed.

At the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc stated that the city would report and propose to the Government to allow HCMC to lead the implementation of the Bau Bang – An Binh – Cai Mep railway project, while coordinating with Dong Nai Province to assign Becamex Group to conduct detailed research and investment planning.

Regarding the Suoi Tien – Binh Duong Metro Line, he encouraged Becamex Group to proactively prepare an investment plan and be ready for execution once the National Assembly approves the amendment of Resolution 98 on special mechanisms and policies for HCMC.

The city leader also directed departments and agencies to closely coordinate and mobilize resources to accelerate project progress and soon bring these initiatives into practical operation for the benefit of the region’s socio-economic development.

From the business perspective, Mr. Nguyen Van Hung- Chairman of Becamex Group noted that with the growing regional integration between HCMC, Binh Duong, and Ba Ria – Vung Tau, the area has strong potential to leverage its inter-provincial strengths in infrastructure, logistics, and green industry. He proposed that the State handle land clearance, while the enterprise undertakes construction and operation under a public–private partnership (PPP) model.

Becamex Group also recommended that railway, land, urban, and industrial planning be integrated into a unified framework, alongside a mechanism for land recovery and on-site resettlement, to ensure social consensus and long-term project efficiency across the southern key economic region.
